It's a song we sing with our kids and it goes a little something like this...

"I love you (insert your name here),
Oh yes I do,
I love you (insert your name here),
this much is true,
when you're not with me, I'm blue
Oh, (insert your name here) I love you
Oh, (insert your name here) I love you!

{extreme couponing}

have you seen the new show Extreme Couponing on TLC?  it chronicles families who have taken couponing to a whole new level and are saving an unreal amount on their grocery bill. while I don’t see myself subscribing to all the practices I have seen on the show (stockpiling food in all rooms of the house, cutting coupons each week the equivalent hours of a full-time job, buying things you don't need or don't donate just because it's a good deal, etc. ) it is more than a little intriguing and has me wondering how I can save our family money at the checkout counter.

i am all for frugality, but am maybe a little uneducated in how to go about it.  don’t get me wrong, our family does google searches for promo codes when ordering online, utilizes sites like groupon.com, livingsocial.com and restaurant.com, but we don’t get the paper and rarely search online for grocery store coupons.  watching the show a couple times and checking out the links to coupon sites on their website has me excited to try my hand at clipping!
so...any tips or tricks you find helpful?  websites for deals, etc.?

  1. Sign up for everything you like and get the coupons from them, which I think you already do. I also signed up for Wendy's, P&G, and several local "groupon" type companies. You do such a great job, I wouldn't sweat it. Remember, most of these women are buying processed food and also shopping corporately. You are being aware of your local and independent surroundings and while the initial investment is greater, so is the return! Happy Shopping :)

  2. I buy the Sunday paper only for the coupons and I have a 1" binder that holds them all in baseball card pockets. I have set rules for myself to only buy products/brands that we would typically buy and if the generic is still cheaper than the coupon discount, we don't use the coupon. So let's be honest: I like cutting and filing and rule-following and spreadsheet-making, so it's sorta the mothership calling me home. My only advise is the obvious: a.) don't use your coupon until the product is already on sale, and b.) always keep your coupons with you, as you (ie. in the car).
